AGM 2025 Draft Minutes

Minutes of the Annual General Meeting of the Hungerford and District u3a held on 8th July 2025

Venue; The Town Hall, Hungerford

35 members attended.

Apologies for Absence

Apologies were received from 8 members.

Previous Minutes and Matters Arising

The minutes of the previous meeting held on 9th July 2024, were approved. 

Chair’s Report 

The Chair presented her written report of the past year (available on the website); and gave a brief summary of the highlights as follows:

  • Hungerford and District U3A currently has 217 members, approximately 40 of whom have joined since the last AGM. 
  • There had been 2 outings and 2 theatre trips during the year. 
  • Between 40 and 60 members had attended the monthly coffee mornings, with the Christmas Tea in December continuing to be very popular. 
  • The Chair thanked all Group Coordinators for their continuing efforts and highlighted the continued success of Pickleball and the Walking Groups, the revived Gardening Group and the recently formed Current Affairs Groups.

Treasurer’s Report and Accounts 

The Treasurer presented his written report and summary accounts (available on the website).

He reported a surplus for the year, largely as a result of the change in venue for the monthly meetings, and said the he anticipated a surplus for next year.  

The accounts were approved.

Membership Subscriptions for 2025/26

In view of the healthy balance the Treasurer recommended that the annual subscription should be maintained at £18.  Members who wish to receive the Third Age Matters magazine will be charged an additional £4.

The proposal was approved.

Election of Officers and Committee 

The Chair reported that the following Committee Members had indicated their willingness to continue in their roles:

  • Katherin Daking (Chair)
  • Richard Daking (Treasurer)
  • Jenny Knight (Meeting Organiser)
  • Gill Grysiecki (Minutes Secretary)
  • Pat Ryder (Membership Secretary)
  • Jane Fidler (Groups Coordinator)
  • Carol Shanahan (Trips Organiser)
  • John Reading (Theatre Organiser)

These nominations were supported and approved.

She reported also that Brian Davis, who had been a member since the founding of the Hungerford u3a was standing down from the committee. He was thanked for his great contribution over many years and was presented with a gift as a show our appreciation.

Thanks were also given to John Ryder who has taken on the task of keeping information on the website up to date.

Although there were no further nominations for the committee at the meeting, the Chair indicated that a further two members would be appreciated and she hoped that members would consider offering their help.
